Band Picks for Lollapalooza 2012If you are wondering what bands to see this year at Lollapalooza there are plenty of great choices. It’s being headlined by some of the best artists in the world, such as The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Justice, and Bassnectar. The following are recommendations for what we think are the best bands by the day each band will be playing. Friday, August 3rdIf you’re going early, you might want to check out some of the unique bands opening up at noon. Wax, a rapper from Maryland will be opening up the Sony stage. He brings back an old school sound with good lyrical content, and might be worth checking out. If you don’t mind being in the folk scene, check out First Aid Kit, two Swedish sisters who are truly gifted, might be worth checking out. They also play at noon, opening up for the PlayStation stage. Finally, if those two just aren’t for you, give the Ambassadors a listen, a rock band opening up the BMI stage. The day really kicks off soon after that, and it’s going to be tremendous. The Black Angels play on the Bud Light stage at 2:15 PM. An awesome psychedelic rock band from Austin, TX, brings out the best of Lollapalooza in the day time. Like most hours, you’re going to have to make a tough choice as The War on Drugs and Dr. Dog take the Google Play and Red Bull Soundstage, respectively at 2:15 PM. This hour is all about the indie and psychedelic rock as the night is about to get heavy. Friday night gets crazy, and there are way too many choices to go over. Porter Robinson, Nero, and Bassnectar all play consecutively on Perry’s stage starting at 5:45 PM. The sun will start to go down and the bass is going to drop. Passion Pit and Black Sabbath will also be playing consecutively on the Bud Light stage starting at 6:00 PM. The Shins and The Black Keys do the same thing on the Red Bull Soundstage starting at 6:15 PM. You’re going to have to make some tough decisions here. It’s also worth a mention that Wale will be closing out the Google Play stage starting at 8:45 PM. Saturday, August 4thPersonally, we think the Friday lineup is better than Saturday’s, but there are a few names on the 4th that are well worth the watch. One of my favorite Jam bands, Moon Taxi, will be playing on the BMI stage starting at 2:10PM. Delta Spirit, another nice rock band from Southern Cal plays on the BMI stage at 2:15. The completely awesome Paper Diamond plays at 3:15 on Perry’s stage. They’ve put on an amazing show the couple of times I’ve seen them, though it was more in a club setting. Rapper B.o.B plays right after him on the same stage. Franz Fernidad plays at 6:15 PM and Avicii at 8:30 PM rounding up the Bud Light stage. You must check out R&B singer Frank Ocean at 8:45 PM in the Google Play stage. It’s tough at that time, because they play at the same time, but Red Hot Chilli Peppers play a two hour set starting at 8:00 PM on the Red Bull Soundstage. Also we need to include Calvin Harris, playing at 7:00 PM on Perry’s stage, as well as Bloc Party at the same time on the Sony Stage. Sunday, August 5thWhile we’re sure some will disagree, early Sunday doesn’t have much to offer. Consider sleeping in and coming out in the afternoon when things will turn epic. If you’re going to be there early, check out White Rabbits on the Bud Light stage at 2:30 PM, and Trampled By Turtles on the Red Bull soundstage at 2:15 PM. Rapper J. Cole plays at 4:15 PM on the Bud Light stage. Doctor P also plays at 4:30 PM on Perry’s stage. Big Gigantic, plays at 5:45 PM on Perry’s stage, with Zeds Dead and Kaskade playing right behind them. That’s probably the best spot to be all night in our opinion. Though most people will venture towards Florence and The Machine at 6:15 PM and Justice at 8:30 PM on the Bud Light stage. Miike Snow plays at 7:15 PM on the Sony stage and Jack White is also closing out the Red Bull stage at 8:15 PM. Friday and Sunday are going to be ridiculous. However, missing The Red Hot Chilli Peppers should be a sin, so you should all probably just take the weekend off and just rage. |
